Deal Envy - Astia Angels sell Ceil Medical

In April Astia angels announced that it had sold Ceil Medical less than two years after it had made its investment.  Ceil Medical had previously been incubated through the Astia Expert Sift Programme and received investment in June 2015.

Ceil Medical addresses the challenge of patients who develop pneumonia whilst on a ventilator when in intensive care. The Sherpa Suction Guide enables above-the-cuff placement of a suction catheter allowing for removal of high-risk pooled secretions. It is the first device of its kind to reliably reduce aspiration and the subsequent risk of VAP cost effectively. Compared to the current premium endotracheal tubes with embedded suctioning, its suction guide can save a single hospital over $100,000 per year by allowing for selective use in only the patients that need it.  It saves approximately six extra days in ICU for patients and reduces the 10% mortality rate associated with patients who develop pneumonia when in hospital.

It has been sold to Waire Medical who intend to take the company into global markets. The terms of the deal were not disclosed but it has been reported that both angels and institutional investors have achieved an exit.
