At ClearlySo, we work with hundreds of individuals who want to see their capital doing good while making a return – they know as well as we do that social impact investing doesn’t just happen in the capital. With some of the most exciting businesses that create social and environmental impact based outside of London, and with angel investors throughout the country making their money work for impact, it’s time that the conversation moved on from its South-Eastern focus.

Incubators, like Social Incubator North, support early-stage businesses that are creating social change, angel groups throughout the country already invest in social and environmental deals, and enterprises such as Parent Hub – which offers training and support for new parents – are looking for investors to help them scale their social impact. We hear from investors, especially from the Midlands and the North, about wanting to recycle their angel capital to do more for planet and people – while making a financial return – so ClearlySo are running a series of events with local partners to explore social impact investing in Greater Manchester and Greater Birmingham. These will include focus groups, and education sessions, including pitching from businesses that create strong social impacts.

Whether you ethically invest, screen your portfolio for negative environmental impacts, are already investing for social good as well as financial return, or are new to the impact investing space, these events offer the chance to meet others and hear about social impact investing and an opportunity to hear exactly how you can invest for social impact as well as financial return. We are particularly exploring the appetite for social impact oriented angel investing in the Midlands and North West, building on the success of Clearly Social Angels in London. 

Individual investors, philanthropists and advisors will join us for informal evening events, with drinks and nibbles. These will begin with a focus group to explore social impact investing; you will then hear some pitches from social entrepreneurs to help you visualise impact investing in action, and we will finish with refreshments and networking.
