10 jobs for angels RIGHT NOW

After the long summer break, it’s now time to get back to work and turn your angel investing activity into a superlative experience.  Here are 10 things that will help you to achieve your goals.

1. Read and then submit your view on HM Government’s consultation on Financing Growth in Innovative Firms https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/financing-growth-in-innovative-firms (Note the Government is planning changes to the S/EIS schemes so your voice will be heard).  Send your MP your views, as a back up.

2. Check on the mental health of your portfolio company founders - could this be a reason why the company is not growing as you hoped?

3. Find out when on earth you can sell the stakes in your portfolio companies by conducting a review of the articles – watch out for the angels exit prevention exercise that is the triple lock of secondary pre-emption, restrictive transfer rights and drag along and tag along.

4.       Find out what your heir apparent thinks about your portfolio.

5.       Get ready for Brexit and looking further afield for deals.  Call Modwenna on 01749 344 888 to get a ticket to a rather special angel event on 23rd October in London, where you can meet amazing entrepreneurs from Turkey AND have dinner with the Turkish ambassador.

6.       Increase the value of your portfolio companies (and bolster the balance sheet) by getting your companies to apply for InnovateUK grants: http://about.beauhurst.com/reports/funding-innovation

7. Go on, give it a go – make an equity crowdfunding investment and find out why Neil Woodford has poured another £4m into Seedrs. (Look at www.crowdrating.co.uk for independent analysis on dozens of ECF campaigns).

8. Join a new angel network to make some new friends to co-invest alongside.

9. Balance your portfolio (remember you need exposure to over 30 companies to have a statistical chance of getting the premium returns your deserve for the risks you are taking) by allocating some cash to this year’s crop of new VCT and EIS funds https://www.clubfinance.co.uk/Open-VCT.php and https://www.clubfinance.co.uk/Open-EIS.php

10.   Save yourself £20 by getting your ticket to The NEX Exchange VCT & EIS Investor Forum by booking now. http://www.thevctandeisinvestorforum.com/
